PET scanner timeline revealed

After many promises and delays the region’s residents have been waiting for PET (Positron Emission Tomography) Scanner to help with their health needs for some time and member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson has been given a timeline for the service to be delivered

Mr Anderson said the tender for the building works required to house the scanner closed on Monday, construction is anticipated to begin in late March and will be completed in June when new equipment will arrive at the Tamworth Hospital.

He said it’s disappointing that the delay has caused angst amongst many in our community. It’s pleasing to know that we now have a timeline and by July this year people will be able to get that much needed treatment here in Tamworth rather than have to travel to Newcastle.

PET scans are a highly specialised and complex form of nuclear medicine imaging modality, used to detect cancers, as well as to assess brain or heart related  conditions.
