2TM's Top Ten Things to Do in Tamworth

NUMBER 1

Currabubula Annual Gala Ball

Saturday 10th August // 6pm // Currabubula Hall


Fancy a dance? Check out the Currabubula Gala Ball on Saturday the 10th of August, with the money raised to help with further improvements on the hall.


The Gala Ball will be a great night out with champagne on arrival, a three course sit down meal, an auction, photo booth and live music by the Jimmy Craz Band. The Currabubula Pub Bus will also be operating on the night.


The ball committee is also busy selling raffle tickets for two fabulous prizes and anyone from around Australia can be in with the chance to win. The prizes include 18ct rose gold rose quart drop earrings valued at $900 kindly donated by Birkbecks Jewellers from Southport, Queensland and a Gold Coast Helitour Joy Flight and Accommodation package valued at $350 kindly donated by Gold Coast Helitour and Georgie Battese MTA Travel.


The Gala Ball is proudly supported by Liverpool Plains Shire Council and Westpac Agribusiness. Tables of 8 or single tickets are available for the event.

Hurricane Fall in Tamworth

TDRA 1/8th Mile Drags

Saturday 10th // 10am // Gunnedah Airport, 41 Wean Road


Gates open to the public for this day from 10am with tickets at just $10 per adult, aged pensioners and children under 12 are free.

Quirindi Junior Rugby 50 Years

Saturday 10th August // 1 - 5pm // Quirindi Rugby Club

Save the date! We will be celebrating 50 successful years in the junior club supporting our senior lions 🦁 Qurindi vs Narrabri on August 10th.

Tickets will get you drinks and lunch!

We are celebrating our current players and would like to see our past players. We might be a small community but we have a activated a strong junior club. Our club demonstrates rugby’s core values Respect, Pride, Accountability and Inclusiveness and behaviours, Be United, Act with Integrity, Work hard and smart and show leadership.

We could not function without the support of volunteers who offer their skills, time and energy to create a FUN club where little lions can learn rugby skills.

Horse Driving Trials in Bingara

Saturday 10th August // 8am - 3pm // Bingara Showgrounds, Bowen Street


The Horse Driving Trials invites all to join us for a great weekend of competition Carriage Driving in Bingara NSW. This event is a great introduction to the competition season and will attract competitors of all levels. 

Open to athletes who are Horse Driving Trials Club members or members of Equestrian Australia State Branches. Spectators and Volunteers welcome.

Tintinhull Trivia Night

Saturday 10th August // 6pm // Oasis Hotel Motel


Fancy flexing those mind muscles on a game of trivia?

Head on down to the Oasis Hotel Motel and support the Tintinhull P&C for their trivia night! Games and prizes to be won plus meat raffles, it's going to be an awesome night.

Book your table of 10 or join a table at $15 per person. Bistro opens from 5.30pm so don't worry about cooking!

Wild at Heart Exhibition

Saturday 10th August // 9 - 11am // Weswal Gallery


It's the last day to check out the Wild at Heart Exhibition at the Weswal Gallery this weekend so head down and see Weswal’s second International Lowbrow/Pop Surrealist exhibition.

This group show, again curated by Australian Pop Surrealist artist Marie Larkin, showcases the work of seventeen artists from Australia and across the globe.


The first exhibition, held in 2017, was enormously successful and many people travelled considerable distances to be able to view art of this genre in a gallery setting. This time we have asked artists to submit more than one work for the show


NUMBER 8

Tamworth Birdwatchers Sunday Field Trip

Sunday 11th August // 8 - 1pm // Tamworth Community Centre, Darling Street


These are great bird watching locations and we expect to see a large number of different bird species including several endangered and rarely seen species. Some of the species that we hope to see include Painted Button-quail, Turquoise Parrot, Regent Honeyeater, Red-capped Robin, Hooded Robin, Diamond Firetail and Grey-crowned Babblers.


Tamworth Birdwatchers welcomes new members but we also invite members of the public to join us to try bird watching. This Sunday outing is open to any one who wants to try bird watching and in particular it is a great opportunity for families who have sports commitments on Saturdays to join us. Enjoy the great outdoors with members of Tamworth Birdwatchers, we will happily share our knowledge and point out the various birds we see.


If you are interested, the field trip will be leaving at 8:00am, from the car park behind the Community Centre, in Darling Street. Be there early so we can organize car-pooling. Bring binoculars if you have them and come prepared with your morning tea, lunch and plenty of water.

NUMBER 9

Tamworth Games Club Meet

Saturday 10th August // 6pm // Tamworth Community College


Tamworth Games Club is the community group created for gamers, by gamers. For the past 8 years we have provided safe, fun and friendly gaming events in the Tamworth/New England Region for gamers of all skill level. From the youngest card gamer to the most jaded war-gaming veteran, everyone is welcome.


We play a variety of Tabletop Board Games such as Super Dungeon Explore, Warhammer Underworld: Shadespire and Ninja All Stars, Trading Card Games and Living Card Games like Magic: The Gathering and Legend of the Five Rings to Tabletop Wargames such as Warhammer and Star Wars: X-Wing.


We also participate in and assist with the hobby sides of gaming such as Painting, Modelling and Collecting.


No matter what the game, people are at the centre of it. Come and join us, roll some dice, play some cards, move some miniatures and ultimately have fun.

$5 entry for venue hire. All ages and games welcome. Children under 16 need to have a parent present


NUMBER 10

Showcase and Presentation at the Con

Sunday 10th August // 2:30pm - 5pm // Tamworth Regional Conservatorium of Music

The Showcase Concert is a highlight of the Conservatorium calendar. We are pleased to feature our 2019 Scholarship recipients, Iris Cornwell on violin, Rachael Seaton on flute, Eoin Shepherd on piano, and vocalist Alicia Turner.


This concert is an opportunity for the Conservatorium to present its major awards, and acknowledge the outstanding work our students have achieved throughout the year.


Audiences will also be treated to performances from the Tamworth Youth Philharmonia and Regional Youth Orchestra, as well as Conservatorium choirs and students who are in their final year of the Early Childhood Music program.


Admission to this concert is free, however donations to the Bursary Fund are gratefully received.
