Tamworth ranks number one for matches on Tinder

Tamworth singles ready to mingle are keeping their options open.

The city has ranked number one in Australia for the highest rate of matches on the dating app Tinder, beating out Sydney and Melbourne.

The app released the top 10 towns where the match-rate is at its highest and where people were most likely to make a connection.

The list includes Albury, Rockhampton, Wagga and Bundaberg, as well as Mackay, Launceston, Townsville, Darwin and Cairns.

The company released the list ahead of its new interactive, first-person "choose your own adventure" apocalyptic experience Swipe Night, launched on Saturday.

Tinder chief executive Elie Seidman said the Gen Z audience is looking for new ways to connect, but one of the hardest parts is breaking the ice once someone has matched.

"Starting a conversation with someone new can be intimidating, so we created Swipe Night to give our members a shared, entertaining experience that would allow them to have a deeper connection," she said.

"Bringing responsive streaming video to Tinder for the first time, Swipe Night is a first-person experience that allows members to take the future into their own hands and make choices which decide their next steps.

"Not only do these choices navigate the story, but they also impact who members can match with and give common ground for them to spark conversation when the journey ends. "
