Stars of Tamworth dance for cancer is on again this year, with locals teaming up with dancers from Tamworth Dance academy to put on a fundraiser raising money for Cancer Council Australia.
With 1 in 2 Australians diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85, the money raised from the event will go towards their world-class cancer research, prevention programs, advocacy, and support services to help those affected by cancer at every point in their journey.
McCulloch real estate agent Oliver Smith said dancing for such a good cause is a privilege,
"Cancer affects everyone in some sort of way, family or friends or both, unfortunately, so to rally together and support as much as we can is great." Said Smith
Teamed up with Smith is a two-time winner, and Dancer Lily Singh, Smith with self-proclaimed two left feet says Singh has her work cut out for her.
The stars are trained twice a week for eight to ten weeks before they get on stage and dance in front of a crowd. Each team will hold their fundraising events before the event; Smith and Singh will have a BBQ outside of Tamworth's magic Pudding on Peel Street – date TBC.
The team are hoping to raise $3000 from sponsorship and donations,
"Any donation large or small, we're accepting. It's a pretty big job, but it's all for a great cause. And you know, it's good to support a local business and get on board," said Smith.
