Liverpool Plains Shire Council (LPSC) has confirmed the Werris Creek boil water alert has been lifted after five days.
LPSC Mayor Doug Hawkins has thanked the Werris Creek residents for their “understanding, corporation and patience during the alert period”.
After ongoing water testing over the past five days, LPSC has indicated the water treatment process is under control and the water is now safe for consumption.
The boil water alert commenced on Wednesday, May 14, following an equipment failure at the Quipolly Dam Treatment Plant. The failure was caused by recent heavy rain streaming into the Quipolly Dam. The issue was resolved that evening, however some of the unsafe water had already made it’s way into the reservoir.
Boiling the contaminated water was advice set by NSW Health in a bid to kill any potential pathogens that may have been in the towns drinking water supply.
NSW Health, Hunter New England Local Health District and the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment have been working closely with LPSC since Wednesday to resolve the issue and remove the alert.
