The World's Second Hewitt Camera Comes To Tamworth

The Tamworth Regional Astronomy and Science Centre will be looking to the skies this morning, as The Hewitt Camera is craned into the purpose-built Hewitt Observatory, designed with a split roll-off-roof to provide full access to the sky.

The HewittCamera -- weighing over eight tonnes -- was designed and constructed in Britain in the early 1960s and used to track satellite orbits and provide information about the Earth’s gravitational field and is the only operational telescope of this type in the world, with one other non-operational camera found at the Herstmonceux Observatory in England.
