Tamworth sets a record high temperature for December


If you've been sweating your way through this week and whinging about the heat you're not alone.


On Wednesday 2nd December Tamworth recorded the highest December temperature on record with a scorching 41.8 degrees, almost 12 degrees higher than December's average temperature.


The previous record of 41.4 degrees was recorded 11 years ago on the 8th December 2009.


However, if your waiting for a reprieve it's coming, with storms forecast over the next few days and into the weekend.

Rain forecast for Tamworth 03-12-2020

The Bureau of Meteorology predicts an 80% chance of storms forming in the afternoon and early evening for Thursday 3rd, Friday 4th and Saturday 5th December.


The State of the Climate 2020 report says Australia's climate has warmed by 1.44 degrees on average leading to more frequent heatwaves.


"In summer we now see a greater frequency of very hot days compared to earlier decades, " a spokesperson from the Bureau of Meterology said.
