TAMWORTH Jockey Club took some positives out of the negatives of having to abandon the seven-race TAB meeting which has now been transferred to another location for Tuesday.

Hunter and North West Racing Association chief steward Shane Cullen confirmed the seven-race TAB

the meeting has been “transferred in its entirety” to Scone.

“We haven’t had to change any of the distances of the race, they are all the same,” Mr Cullen said.

“But we are also very happy to have had the rain too.”

While the TJC were disappointed they couldn’t race on an extremely Heavy surface they are hoping the rain would help them prepare a perfect surface for the up-coming Country Championship Qualifier on March 8.

TJC general manager Mitch Shaw kept a positive frame of mind after the Tamworth track copped 70mm of rain in the past few days.

“It’s never good to lose a meeting but the rain is so welcome," he said of a wet weekend in Tamworth and the region.

“Especially with the Country Championships coming up too. I walked the track this morning and cannot believe much it has greened up in just a few days.”

TJC track manager Lindsay Bowne was also “looking on the bright side” of the wet weather.

“We did need the rain and can now put in a lot of work to have the track perfect for the Country Championships on March 8,” he said.

The TJC does race Tuesday, February 25 with an eight-race TAB meeting. That is a “standalone” meeting, that is, the only NSW race meeting on the day.

“Should be a great day too,” added Mr Shaw.
