TAMWORTH MONOPOLY: An iconic game for an iconic town

Tamworth Regional Council (TRC) is in the process of developing the towns very own official version of the world’s most popular board game.

MONOPOLY manufacturer Winning Moves, who are under the license of giant publishing conglomerate Hasbro, are in discussion with TRC regarding the ins and outs of a TAMWORTH MONOPOLY board game.

Tamworth Region Mayor Col Murray said that this is an amazing opportunity for the region to be featured with its very own board of this iconic game.

“People will be able to take a piece of Tamworth home with them and battle it out over their favourite attraction or destination. It also provides a great opportunity to advertise our region in a significant lasting way.”

The Tamworth edition will replace original London MONOPOLY themes with local sites and attractions. Although these specifics are yet to be confirmed, Mayor Col Murray has a few ideas in mind.

“I’d like to see the silo art at Barraba, maybe the Nundle Woollen Mill” he said.

“It will be a lot of fun for the community to be involved and also for the council to be involved in selecting those spots right around the board”.

There are plans to include a special guitar piece in the game, as well as customised ‘Community Chest’ and ‘Chance’ playing cards, making the entire game a truly Tamworth experience.

The game is planned to hit the shelves late this year, in time for Christmas and for the 50th anniversary of the Tamworth Country Music Festival in January 2022. The game will be sold exclusively through venues featured on the board and at the Tamworth Visitor Information Centre.

Tamworth Regional Council are taking a risk based approach to the funding of this project, but remain “very, very confident that this will return a nice little dividend for the community”. The council will record in full discloser the costs associated with the game on their annual end of year report.
