A 58-year-old Tamworth man was arrested in Hillvue on Tuesday 12th January for allegedly using social media to send threats to two Australian politicians.
The two Australian MP's on the receiving end of the alleged online abuse cannot be named for privacy reasons.
In December last year comments made on social media came under the notice of the special investigation unit who deal with stalkers and fixated persons.
The specialist squad commenced an investigation and following extensive enquires police raided a home in Hillvue arresting the 58-year-old man, confiscating a number of electronic devices and three cannabis plants.
The man was taken to Tamworth Police Station where he was charged with using a device to menace/harass or offend and also with growing cannabis.
The court granted the man conditional bail and he will return to Tamworth Local Court on Monday 8th February.
The Fixated Persons Investigations Unit was established in 2017 by Commissioner Mick Fuller to focus on the detection, intervention, and prevention of so-called ‘lone actor’ and ‘fixated person’ threats and grievance-fuelled violence across the state.
