Tamworth Kangaroos Wear Pink For Breast Cancer

The Tamworth Kangaroos AFLW team will be wearing their pink socks to raise awareness for breast cancer in their women's round this Saturday, June 25.

Versing the Gunnedah Bulldogs in Tamworth at the No 1 oval, the match will move to 2 pm instead of its noon kick-off with a bake sale and a raffle on offer with all money raised to go to the National Breast Cancer Organisation (NBCF).

Michaela Katrin, a player for the Kangaroos, said the day is all about community and raising much-needed funds,

"AFL is really a community sport, so we really feel that it's important to raise awareness about a cause like breast cancer, especially for young girls to know that they have to be aware and test themselves and just look out for any signs."

Every day this year, 57 Australians will be told they have breast cancer –over 20,000 people in 2022. The NBCF Go Pink for June is bringing the community together for their mission to reach zero deaths by breast cancer by 2030.

To self-check, the National Breast Cancer organisation advise placing a pillow under your right shoulder and your right arm behind your head. Using your left hand, move the pads of your fingers around your right breast, gently covering the entire breast area and armpit. Use light, medium, and firm pressure. Squeeze the nipple; check for discharge and lumps.

Sweet and Savoury baked goods will be on sale, and vouchers from local sponsors will be up for grabs in the raffle.

Raffle tickets: 1 for $2 or 5 for $3; all money goes directly to National Breast Cancer Foundation.

The kick-off is 2 pm with the Men's pride match playing at 12 pm.
