Authorities have raised the alarm after a number of regional towns have had fragments of COVID-19 detected in their sewage system.
The NSW Deputy Chief Health Officer Dr Marrianne Gale said Tamworth and Gunnedah were included.
“Of concern today is that we have had sewage detections in quite a number of locations across NSW… In the Hunter New England, Tamworth, and Gunnedah, so if you live in those areas please come forward for testing.” said Dr Marrianne Gale.
Health authorities believes the detections point to an infectious person being in those communities or having recently visited.
“We are currently unaware of any COVID-positive people in that area that might explain the sewage detection so please, come forward for testing.” Dr Gale said.
Deputy Premier John Barilaro said his message is clear.
“My message for anybody with any symptoms as small as they may be: go and get tested,” said Mr Barilaro.
NSW recorded 1116 cases in the 24 hours to 8pm on Tuesday evening.
