Tamworth air quality 'hazardous' as smoke settles

Air quality in Tamworth is currently listed as hazardous due to smoke as the Rural Fire Service battle 11 blazes within 50 kilometres of the city.

The Rural Fire Service said the thick smoke settling over the city is due to the easterly change, but all fires in the area remain at advice level.

Where possible, people should stay indoors to avoid irritations to the eyes, nose and throats.

Older adults and people with heart and lung conditions are most susceptible to the effects of air pollution and excessive smoke.

People with asthma, heart disease and other lung and heart conditions should avoid vigorous outdoor physical activity whilst the smoke is around.
