Shots Fired During the Attempted Theft of an ATM in Werris Creek


Police are appealing for information after an ATM was stolen in a ram raid in Werris Creek overnight.


Just before 2.30am this morning, police were called to the Werris Creek Bowling and Tennis Club on Henry Street after reports a ram raid was in progress.


A police officer’s vehicle was rammed by a Holden Rodeo ute when he attended the scene, forcing the officer to discharge a number of shots.


The ute fled, followed by police before being dumped on The Gap Road and the occupants fled into nearby bushland.


Despite a search, they were unable to be located.


The ute was seized and will be forensically examined.


A crime scene was established after inquiries revealed an ATM had been stolen from the club and officers from Oxley Police District have commenced an investigation.
