A ‘freak accident’ at Tamworth’s Saturday night rodeo event has claimed the life of valued industry professional Bruce ‘Greenie’ Green.

Mr Green, 62, from Grafton, was a long time Board Member of the Australian Bushmen's Campdraft and Rodeo Association and is said to have given himself selflessly to his mates, family and the sport of rodeo and Campdraft.

On Saturday 23rd January Mr Green was working as a yardman at a rodeo roundup event being held at the Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre in Tamworth.

Shortly after 9 pm, Mr Green was critically injured after a bull charged at him in front of the stadium crowd.

NSW Paramedics confirmed they sent four crews to the scene who arrived within 8 minutes of the first call.

The paramedics treated Mr Green after he went into cardiac arrest before transporting him to Tamworth Hospital for further treatment where he later died.

ABCRA, the event organisers, released a statement sending their deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Mr Green, describing him as “a diamond in the rough” who was generous in every way.

Oxley Police District have confirmed they are conducting inquiries into the circumstances surrounding Mr Green’s death and a report is being prepared for the coroner.
