Regional sport can continue - advice to minimise overnight travel
Regional community sports competitions can continue with their existing competition structures yet advise remains to minimise overnight travel.
Recommendations by the Chief Health Officer on Friday 14th August startled sporting clubs in regional NSW who regularly travel between regional areas to make sporting competitions viable.
NSW Office of Sport released a statement at 8:00 pm on Wednesday 19th August to clarify the recommendations made just days earlier.
The most recent statement clarifies the main principle of the guidelines is to avoid intermingling and potential community transmission, yet acknowledges regional sporting associations may need to maintain existing arrangements to keep competitions alive.
Existing competitions may run across local government areas however, the recommendation remains that if there re enough teams within one LGA a more local competition should be considered.
The statement also recommends overnight travel should be minimised and when it is required carpooling and shared transport should be avoided.
