NSW residents are living in a new world under tough coronavirus restrictions.
Police have the power to deliver on-the-spot fines of $1,000 to individuals who breach those rules and the maximum penalty that can be given by a court is $11,000 and six months in jail.
The only lawful reasons to leave the house are to work, study, to shop for food or other essential items, access medical care or exercise alone or with one other person.
Police Commissioner Mick Fuller said the new social isolation rules will last for 90 days.
"There was a good question yesterday about when is the turn-off period for these orders," he said.
"It is 90 days. People will have gotten the message by then, hopefully.
"And we won’t be talking about the powers, we’ll be talking about what does it look like coming out of this."
Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the slowdown in infections is pleasing but people need to remain vigilant.
"The acceleration of cases in NSW isn't growing, which is a good thing," she said during Thursday's press conference.
