Man charged following investigation into alleged sexual abuse of young boy


A man will appear in court on Wednesday following an investigation into the alleged sexual abuse of a young boy in the region. Earlier this month, detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad followed up reports a young boy had been sexually abused by a man who was known to him. Officers arrested a 44-year-old man at a home near Inverell just after 2pm on Tuesday. The man was taken to Inverell Police Station and charged with intentionally sexually touch child (between 10 and 16 years), two counts of aggravated sexual intercourse child (between 10 and 14 years), attempt aggravated sexual intercourse child (between 10 and 14 years) and intentionally do sexual act with child (between 10 and 16 years). Police will allege in court that the man sexually abused an 11-year-old boy on multiple occasions at a home at Inverell in April this year. He was refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court on Wednesday. The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
