Man allegedly defrauded sports club of $80,000

A man will face court today after allegedly defrauding a sporting association of more than $80,000 while he was an elected official.

In August 2019, detectives from Oxley Police District commenced an investigation after a sporting association reported anomalies in financial records.

Following extensive inquiries, investigators arrested a 29-year-old man at a home at Narrabri on Tuesday.

He was charged with five counts of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception, making a false document to obtain financial advantage, and using a false document to obtain financial advantage.

Police will allege in court that the man transferred funds into his personal account, withdrew cash, and made purchases at several businesses, defrauding the association of a total of more than $83,000 between November 2018 and August 2019.

The man has been refused bail to appear at Moree Local Court today.
