The Thank a Farmer for Your Next Meal social media campaign is calling on Australians to phone their farming friends and family members today.

Phone a Farmer will officially be held today however organisers Jim Honnor and Sam Johnston want to remind people to continually check in on their loved ones doing it tough during this drought.

Jim says the idea around today is to remind people about the tough times so many of our Australian farmers are still facing.

"All of the media coverage has really died down on the drought and I think a lot of people have forgot it's happening." Jim said.

"There are a lot of farmers out there who think they have been forgotten about.

"So it's just about getting people to pick up a phone, phone a family friend or someone they know on the farm and ask them how they're going."
