Community Invited to Drought Forum at the Calala Inn Tonight

The Calala Rotary Club will host a Farmers Drought Forum at the Calala Inn from 6pm tonight.

Member for the New England and Envoy for Drought Assistance Barnaby Joyce will be the guest speaker on the night.

Mr Joyce is expected to cover; what has the government done for the drought, what are they still doing for the drought, what can they do better next time for a drought and water, which is the big talking point at the moment.

The MP will also join the Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson, Mayor Col Murray and James Riley from Centacare on a panel answering the crowd’s questions.

President of the Calala Rotary Club, Barry Pretton is hoping the information provided tonight can help our struggling farmers in some way.

“We’ve tried to cover as many aspects of farming life as we can.” Mr Pretton said.

“Its our little thing we can do to help the drought situation, instead of giving money or buying hay we decided to put this on.”

Barry hopes to see as many people at the event as possible and says the whole community is welcome to attend.

“We hope we can get a fair cross section of the community to come and listen and to ask so very pertinent questions.

“If anyone would like to turn up and they’re interested they just need to be at the Calala Inn at 6pm tonight and they’ll be welcome.”
