Mass cancellations of entertainment events in Tamworth, such as the Ian Moss show, have been announced following the Prime Minister's order this morning.
Tamworth Regional Council's Entertainment Venues Division - which includes the Capitol Theatre, TRECC, War Memorial Town Hall, and the community centre - will suspend and reschedule live performance and events until July 31.
Peter Ross, manager of the Entertainment Venues, said he is passionate and committed to delivering the best live entertainment experience to the community that is drawn from local, national and international touring productions.
"However, in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and the latest government and public health advice in relation to non-essential gatherings indoors of no more than 100, we've made the decision to suspend and reschedule - where possible - all live performances scheduled up until July 31, 2020, with ongoing review based on future recommendations from health and government officials," he said.
"We're actively working with all artists, community groups and touring companies due to perform between now and July 31 to reschedule their shows.
"Ticketholders to all shows will be contacted soon by the Entertainment Venues."
Mr Ross said it was disappointing to have to cancel the events, but was the only course of action following the edict issued by the Prime Minister on Wednesday morning.
He added that although streaming is a potential avenue being used, Entertainment Venues focussed on providing live entertainment and would be sticking to that business model at this current point in time.
Mr Ross said the box office will remain open for business as usual between 10am and 4pm on weekdays as a point of contact for residents who have any questions.
He encouraged people to reschedule their tickets where possible and to continue to support the shows that will play in Tamworth.
Mr Ross said there is no doubt that this will impact the business and the local groups that work to put the productions on, but the priority is the health and safety of the public.
