Armidale Robbers Armed with Fishing Knife and Baseball Bat Arrested


Three men were arrested in Armidale yesterday in relation to armed robbery and domestic offences.


Two men allegedly armed with a baseball bat and fishing knife assaulted and robbed the occupants of a home in Edward Street, Armidale in mid July.


The occupants sustained minor injuries during the incident, with one requiring treatment in hospital.


Following investigations, officers from Armidale attended a home in the same street as the incident to arrest two men in relation to the armed robbery on Thursday.


A violent struggle between police and one of the men ensued, while the second man fled the scene.


Police were able to arrest a 23-year-old man involved in the struggle and he was taken to Armidale Police Station.


Police attended a house McIntosh Crescent a short time later, to locate the man who fled.


The man was not located however officers recognised a third man at the house who was in breach of a current AVO.


He was arrested and taken to Armidale Police Station.


Officers returned to the address on McIntosh Crescent 3 hours later and located the second man who was finally arrested.


All three men were refused bail and appeared in Armidale Local Court on Thursday.


After appearing in court, the 23-year-old male was taken to the Armidale Hospital to receive medical attention.


The man then escaped custody whilst being escorted back to the police car and fled.


Following a search of the surrounding areas the man was located in the Dumaresq Creek.


He was arrested and conveyed to Armidale Police Station where he was charged with a further offence of escape lawful custody.


He is due to appear in Armidale Local Court today.
