Big W has today announced they will be closing their Armidale store from January 2021 after reviewing lease obligations and performance.
The recent announcement comes as a double blow for Armidale residents who will also be losing their Target store from the first half of next year leaving the city with limited department store options.
The closure of Big W's Armidale store comes after the company last year announced the intention to close 30 stores nationally over 3 years.
David Walker, Managing Director of BIG W said “The decision to close any store is difficult, particularly now that communities are being challenged during COVID-19.
Two stores in Victoria will also close at the same time and employees redeployed across Big W stores in the state.
In a statement, Big W said due to the regional location of the Armidale store management will 'explore redeployment opportunities across the Woolworths Group'.
