A 31-year-old man faces court for kidnapping, rolling cars, drugs and $30,000 in cash

A 31-year-old man has been charged with 18 offences after allegedly ramming a car, detaining two people and being found with drugs and large amounts of cash.

About 5 am on Saturday 5th September a man driving a white Holden station wagon rammed a silver Holden Statesman whilst travelling on the New England Highway about 8kms north of Guyra.

The impact of the crash sent the Statesman rolling off the road with a man and a woman still inside.

It is alleged the 31-year-old man then allegedly detained the two occupants of the rolled car, driving them to Armidale, assaulting them and holding them against their will.

The pair managed to escape making their way straight to the Armidale police station and recounting their ordeal before being taken to the local hospital for treatment.

Police spent several days investigating and following leads before executing a search warrant on Monday 7th September around 10 am at a house on Marsh Street.

During the search officers located and seized multiple bags of ice and just over $30,000 in cash.

A 31-year-old man was arrested and taken to Armidale Police Station and charged with the following 18 offences including 5 counts of reckless driving, two counts of detaining a person and supplying drugs.

The man was refused bail to appear at Armidale Local Court today (Tuesday 8 September 2020).
