$816,000 Worth of Upgrades for Fitzroy Street Approved by Council

Tamworth Councillors voted in favour of the proposed upgrades to finish the Fitzroy Street Plaza at last night’s ordinary meeting.

The upgrades will see additional seating, shade in the form of living umbrellas and the planting of mature trees in the multi-purpose outdoor space.

The estimated cost of the upgrade is $816,885.

Council will use the remaining $349,000 funds in the Fitzroy Street Upgrade Project budget plus additional $467,885 allocated from the Civil Construction Reserve funds to execute the project.

A longer-term recommendation to Council is to investigate catenary lighting to be strung across the space to create a night time lighting feature. Councillors also raised the need to address traffic management in the area in the future.

The estimated cost of the upgrade is $817,000 and they’re expected to be completed in time for this year’s Fiesta La Peel festival.
