An 80-year-old man is in a critical condition after being knocked off his mobility scooter in Barraba yesterday afternoon on the intersection of Fitzroy and Alice Street, Barraba.

Emergency services were called to the scene following reports of a crash involving a red Ford utility and a mobility scooter.

The elderly man suffered serious head injuries after falling from the scooter and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

After being taken for further treatment at Barraba Hospital doctors decided he required specialist medical treatment and was airlifted to the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.

A spokesperson from Hunter New England Health has confirmed the man remains in a stable yet serious condition.

Police are continuing crash investigations.
