2TM to recreate iconic cookbook for 85th birthday, proceeds to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service

As 2TM continues to celebrate their 85th birthday this year, we are excited to announce the 85th Anniversary 2TM Cookbook.

Each year since 2002, both 2TM and sister station 92.9FM Tamworth have provided support to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter by way of promotion which helps drive donations to The Rescue Helicopter Ball, Ride for The Chopper, Tamworth Golf Day and the Drovers Run.

While Covid-19 has put a halt to fundraising events for this essential service, the team at 2TM wanted to do something to help.

So we came up with the idea of producing a new 2TM cookbook to celebrate their 85th birthday and to donate 100% of the proceeds to the essential rescue service.

The 85th Anniversary 2TM Cookbook will feature family recipes from prominent people who have a strong connection to Tamworth, such as Felicity Urquhart, The McClymonts, Joy McKean and Anne Kirkpatrick along with other famous country music artists.

There will be recipes from 2TM identities Peter Huxley, Sally-Anne Whitten, Toni Ambrogetti and Jarrad Brooke, some prominent Tamworth sports people and even one from a rescue pilot. The Cookbook will be available for sale in November, just in time for Christmas and the 2021 Tamworth Country Music Festival with the proceeds being presented to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter in February 2021.

Where did the idea come from?

The project came about while searching for information on the stations’ history. It became apparent that no-one had ever actually compiled the history from the many scrapbooks, photos and newspaper clippings that the station held.

So with the help of several people who have previously worked at the station including Max Ellis and Gavin Flanagan, General Manager Nikki Kenwrick created a timeline of the many 2TM milestones that can now be seen on the stations website together with some historic photos.

Uncovered along the journey, was the information that the 2TM Women’s Radio Club had published a Cookery Book in 1947.

This book contained listener recipes and cooking tips and has today become a cherished collectors’ item that has been passed down through the generations. 2TM put a shout out to the listeners to try and obtain an original copy for the station, and while several people were willing to let us make a copy, none were willing to part with their original.

In keeping with some of the tradition from the original book, there will also be a selection of recipes from some 2TM listeners who can submit recipes for a chance to win a spot in the book. 2TM has long supported the Tamworth and district community, helping organisations such as the CWA, Meals on Wheels, Ronald McDonald House, the Cancer Council, and even building a house known as ‘The House that 2TM Built’ which supported the Nazareth House Building Appeal and the Kidney Appeal in 1969.

2TM is proud to support the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, donating 100% of profits back to the charity

In 2002 the sponsorship between the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, 2TM and sister station 92.9FM began, what is now, a relationship in its 18th year.

When will the cookbook be available?

The 85th Anniversary 2TM Cookbook will sell for $20 each and will be available from the station, online and from Centrepoint Tamworth.
