The Boy from Attunga

From the plains to the stage, from the tractor to the piano – this show celebrates Bill Gleeson’s theatrical life!

Bill Gleeson grew up playing by ear on the family’s Beale pianola and one special song, Vilia, started it all! In 1959 he heard the song sung on stage by Marj. Cousens - he was hooked and so began his deep association with Tamworth Musical Society, Tamworth Dramatic Society and indeed the world of music and theatre from Sydney to London and back home to Tamworth.

The Boy from Attunga! celebrates Bill’s 60 year involvement on the Tamworth stage, his careers with Qantas as Steward and ABC New England North West as announcer, and the many people that influenced his life both on and off the stage.

A life member and patron of both Tamworth Musical Society and Tamworth Dramatic Society, and the recipient of an O.A.M., Bill’s philosophy has always been to forget the past and never look back – except maybe on this occasion as we celebrate the life of The Boy From Attunga!
